ROYAL WEDDING AT A PRICE

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

If you’re thinking of heading to London to join in the royal wedding celebrations of Prince William and Kate Middleton, then you’d better book your accommodation sooner than later and be prepared to pay big time.

With the expected influx of royal groupies, the fact that the wedding day will be a national holiday and extend the May Day weekend to 4 work free days (well for some people) London newspapers are claiming that demand for hotel accommodation is already at an all time high.

New York voted best US destination for gay travelers

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

That’s the result from the 15th Annual Gay and Lesbian Tourism Study which reports that 27% of gay travelers in the US visited and spent at least on night in a hotel in New York .

The report suggest that New York has plans to advertise itself as a gay friendly destination to claim a bigger slice of the $60 billion gay tourist industry in the future.

With New York heading the list, the other top destinations of, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago and Los Angeles are reported as being in the top five. Interestingly, Pink Choice members appear to disagree with these findings, placing US gay travel destinations in the following order:

Fort Lauderdale, Miami/South Beach, Key West, Provincetown, New York and San Francisco.

Pearl’s Rainbow in Key West goes Co-Ed!

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Pearl’s Rainbow has for many years been the only guesthouse in Key West offering lesbian only accommodation. Now it has decided to open its doors to men, and anyone else who cares to stay there. According to Heather Carruthers, owner of the resort, the policy change was a business decision based on the current tough economic climate. She had also received requests from some of her female guests to have their male friends join them for Thanksgiving.

Whilst it is commendable that Pearl’s is embracing greater diversity, it will be interesting to see whether this turns out to be a sound business decision. Will men, who have enjoyed the high sexual temperature of some of the all-male guesthouses in Key West, suddenly opt to sit round the pool at Pearl’s guesthouse with a mixed clientele, especially when the resort is not clothing-optional? And how will the regular female guests feel about their private paradise being invaded? We will look forward to receiving some guest reviews on how the change pans out.
